Electrical Tricks for Safety Treats

Halloween is a thrilling time of the year, but before you decorate your home with lights, monsters, and creepy creatures, inspect the following:

  • Check and discard all electrical decorations or lights with damaged wires.
  • If you are using electrical products outside, make sure they are marked “for outdoor use”.
  • Keep electric cords away from high traffic areas, which may cause a tripping hazard to trick-or-treaters.
  • Plug all outdoor decorations into circuits protected by Ground Fault Circuit Interrupters (GFCI’s), to prevent electric shock.
  • Install Tamper Resistant Receptacles in your home, this permanent and cost-effective solution prevents injuries caused by the insertion of foreign objects into outlets.
  • Avoid using dried flowers, corn stalks or hay in your festive decorations. They are highly flammable and can be ignited by the heat of a light bulb.
  • If you come across any electrical ghouls or ghosts during this or any other season, make sure you call Nightingale Service’s 24-Hour Electrical Service Line at 604 275 1111!
